Collection: Celtic Cross
The cross with a circle, the "Celtic Cross", evolved between the 4th & 9th centuries and reappeared in the form of impressive stone monuments, grave-markers and jewellery from 1880 onwards. They were used as landmarks to aid travellers on their journeys.
Folklore endows the circle with a message of eternity and blessedness, uniting the physical plane (the horizontal) with the spiritual plane (the vertical). There are also associations with pagan, Roman & ancient Egyptian symbolism.
