Significance of the Thistle:
Common throughout Scotland , the thistle has been a national emblem for centuries. Legend has it that a sleeping army of Scottish warriors was saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the attackers trod on a thistle with his bare feet. His cries raised the alarm, rousing the Scots, who defeated the army, and the thistle was adopted as the symbol of Scotland.
Significance of Luckenbooth:
The Luckenbooth is a heart-shaped symbol, or two intertwined hearts, topped with a crown. The name comes from the medieval luckenbooths of Edinburgh where jewellery and trinkets used to be sold. Quite commonly given as a love token or betrothal gift, it is also believed to have talismanic value for protection against the evil-eye.
