Scottish Thistle Ring - Celtic Leaves with Cut Amethyst
Scottish Thistle Ring with cut Amethyst set in hallmarked 925 Sterling Silver with Celtic knot details.
Significance of Scottish Thistle:
Common throughout Scotland, the thistle has been a national emblem for centuries. Legend has it that a sleeping army of Scottish warriors was saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the attackers trod on a thistle with his bare feet. His cries raised the alarm, rousing the Scots, who defeated the army, and the thistle was adopted as the symbol of Scotland.
Significance of Amethyst:
A violet or purple variety of quartz, the amethyst has been used in jewellery since Ancient Egyptian times. Associated with Bacchus, the god of wine, by the Ancient Greeks, it was believed to prevent intoxication. These days it frequently adorns the fingers of Bishops and Royals as well as the Royal Crown jewels.
Significance of Celtic Knot:
Celtic knots are complete, endless loops without any beginning or end. The use of only one thread highlights the Celts’ belief in the interconnectedness of life and eternity. They saw the constant interlacing as the physical and spiritual crossing of paths, expressing permanence and the endurance of life, love and faith.
