Unearthing Scotland's Green Marble: A Celtic Design Quest
Journey back to 2011 when the co-founders of our company Benny and Paula embarked on a daring quest - a quest woven with determination, passion, and a desire to encapsulate Scotland's essence into every piece of silver jewellery. It all started with a vision to offer tourists in Edinburgh a tangible connection to Scotland, a piece of its rugged beauty to carry home.
At that time, information about the elusive Scottish green marble was scarce, confined to a lone stall in the local market. With the internet not yet the expansive treasure trove it is today, Paula, delved into geology books, articles, and every source imaginable to uncover the whereabouts of this legendary stone.
Their pursuit led Benny and Paula to Iona Island, guided by whispers in geological texts. However, the reality upon arrival was stark – the quarry had long ceased operations, leaving scattered pebbles along the shore. Despite glimpses of jewellery fashioned from this rare marble, the primary source remained an enigma.
Undeterred, a lead steered them closer to Edinburgh, only to discover disappointingly small and fragmented pieces unsuitable for their envisioned designs. Yet, Paula persisted, meticulously studying geological maps that hinted at a potential metamorphic formation.
Their relentless efforts bore fruit when they chanced upon a prospective quarry site. Despite countless unanswered calls, they eventually made contact with the elusive quarry owner. Finally, after an arduous year pursuing the fabled green marble, an opportunity arose to physically journey to the Highland quarry.
Standing amidst the Highland’s scenic splendour, surrounded by metamorphic formations, they witnessed an array of stones with the distinctive hue they sought. The culmination of their tireless pursuit was at hand as they carefully handpicked the finest stones, each one destined to become part of their envisioned jewellery collection.
Yet, their journey didn’t end with the collection of these substantial stones. It marked merely the beginning of a new chapter. They embarked on a fresh quest – to seek out the most skilled stone cutters. The aim was to refine these exquisite stones, ensuring that only the finest quality pieces would grace their jewellery.
Today, our jewellery collection stands as a testament to their journey, each piece not just a mere accessory but a tangible piece of Scotland’s legacy, a remnant of the relentless pursuit for perfection and the indomitable spirit of discovery.
